3 Brand Building Basics To Focus On Right Now
Things are different but that doesn't mean you have to stop.
These are some wild and stressful times we’re living in.
There are a lot of things to keep our time wrapped up (and mainly our minds wrapped up). You might also be finding yourself rethinking your priorities around time and what you want to do in some new-found pockets — reading more, learning a new skill (I’ve been cooking more and learning some new recipes!), or even just taking some time to yourself to reflect.
While I’m a huge advocate for self-care, mental health and getting your rest in, I’m convinced the silver lining during this pandemic presents a fantastic opportunity for you to work on some of the basics of brand-building activities.
Here are the main buckets of growing your platform you can put some proactive energy around:
Speaking Opportunities
Yes, in-person conferences have come to a halt — however you can take this time to scout what virtual events are very much still happening now and where your expertise can show up. With plenty of opportunities for webinars, virtual fireside chats and interviews, now is a great time to share your insights with a large audience at minimal effort around travel, logistics, etc. And we can’t forget about podcasts! Here’s one of my recent appearances talking about democratizing access to health. Don’t forget to start putting together your speaking package for when it’s time to apply to speak for 2021.
Start Your Writing Engines
Wanted to wait until people’s eyes have slowed down on the internet to brainstorm how you’re going to show up with your thoughts? Well, things aren’t slowing down anytime soon but there are definitely more people at home looking for inspiring, educational and valuable content! I love using Evernote to keep track of notes/ideas. Saw an article that you want to expand on? The Evernote web clipper is perfect for that too. Try outlining a few thoughts for blog posts, get them written, and before you know it, voila! you’ll have some to begin sharing. You’ll only get better if you get started.
Where’s Your HQ?
Undoubtedly, having an online presence is part of the foundation for brand building. Did you grab a domain that is tied to your name yet? Jumped on Squarespace to put together a website? When was the last time you cleaned up your LinkedIn profile? Use this time to build a place to point people to!
These are just a few ways to make valuable use of these unprecedented times to move towards your goals and execute on your ideas.
Let me know if you plan to tackle any (or all!) of these.
